Makita’s previous website was built on a proprietary content management system that was not very user friendly and had proved difficult for their internal staff to use. As a result, the website had become outdated with discontinued lines still published and many new products not available due to the complex workflow required to create new content.

In the 3 years since Makita had last updated their website, the brand position had moved and the look and feel of the site had failed to keep up with these changes.

The Brief

Makita engaged Bold New Media to redesign and develop a new branded website. The brief included specifying a content management system (CMS) that would allow Makita staff to manage and update key content on the site such as adding new products, updating promotional activities and managing customer product warranties. The CMS needed to be intuitive and simple enough that staff could utilize if effectively with a minimum of training.

The Solution

Bold New Media partnered with Makita’s internal design team to design a new look for their site that reflected the company’s premium market position as the #1 tool brand in the market. We specified a robust, open source CMS, which eliminated the need for expensive licenses whilst providing access to the source code allowing for detailed customisation to create site functions and features specifically tailored to the needs of their retailers and customers.

The Result

Makita Australia now have a dynamic and sophisticated branded website that responds instantly to any update or change in core messages, promotions and product releases. As a result, customers now have access to the most current and up-to-date product information and data. User traffic to the website has more than doubled and time spent on site has gone from an average of 90 seconds to nearly 6 minutes.
